Moberg Pitches Siena Past LeMoyne

April 16, 2006

Final Stats

Freshman Matt Moberg went the distance allowing just four hits and one earned run as Siena downed LeMoyne 4-2 in Loudonville Easter Sunday. Moberg struck out nine and did not walk a batter in one of the top pitching efforts of the season when Siena needed it most.

LeMoyne (17-11/7-5) scored a run in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Moberg hit Andy Parrino to start the game and he later scored on a fielding error. Moberg did not allow another LeMoyne batter to reach base until Jamie Rose doubled with one out in the sixth.

Siena (11-20-1/6-6) got its offense in gear early, scoring twice in the first inning on Eric Hildenbrand's two-out double down the left field line. In the second, the Saints added another run as Jason DeFillipo singled to start the frame, stole second and scored on an error.

LeMoyne starter Michael Faslasca then settled down, holding Siena scoreless until the seventh.

Matt Gidaly and Scott King singled in the seventh and Jake Willis delivered a key insurance run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

The final run of the game was scored on Michael Affronti's two-out homerun in the ninth.

King and DeFillipo had two hits a piece for Siena, which lost both games to LeMoyne yesterday. Four different players accounted for LeMoyne's four hits.

Siena continues its season-long homestand Monday with a 3:30 game against Connecticut.
