Fresh off its first MAAC Championship since 1991, the Siena College men's golf team learned Monday it will travel to the Sand Ridge Golf Club in Cleveland to play in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
A total of 81 teams were selected to play at the three regional sites May 18-20. Siena was the #25 seed in the Central Region which consists of 27 teams. The top 10 teams in each of the three regions (East-Orlando and West-Tucson, Ariz.) will move on to the finals to be held May 31-June 3 at Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.
"This is a great moment in our program's history," head coach Tom Wronowski said. "We couldn't be happier with where we are headed and we will give it our best shot."
The men's golf team joins volleyball and women's tennis as Siena teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament this season. The three teams NCAA teams is the most the College has had in any year since turning Division I in 1976. Women's golf also won the MAAC Championship, defeating Fairfield, but the MAAC does not have an automatic bid to the NCAA's.
