Final Stats

Nick Messinger, Jason DeFillipo and Eric Mruczek each had three hits for the Saints, but it wasn't enough to offset South Alabama's 15-hit attack as the Jaguars downed Siena 13-7 Tuesday night. USA scored 13 unanswered runs after the Saints jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.

Messinger started the Siena third inning with a triple and scored on DeFillipo's ensuing RBI single. Juniors Rick Seltzer and Jake Willis each singled home a run later in the inning as Siena took an early 3-0 lead.

Senior Trevor Reid started for the Saints and pitched two scoreless innings before running into trouble.

The Jaguars struck for three runs in the third to tie the game and scored four more in the fourth inning to take command. David Doss had an RBI double in the third and a triple in the fourth that scored three runs. Doss finished with three hits and five RBI for the victors.

After a scoreless fifth inning, USA seemed to put the game away with three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Pinch hitter Ryan McCroy's three-run home run in the seventh highlighted the rally.

Siena made things interesting with a run in the eight and three more in the ninth. Messinger had an RBI single in the eight and Seltzer's second home run of the inning tallied two runs in the ninth. Mike Ambury tripled with one out and scored on a balk, but Brett Wade struck out the final two Siena batters to quell the rally.

The two teams will play the second game of the three-game set Wednesday at 2 p.m. (3 p.m. EST)
