Final Stats Game 2

Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena split a two game series with Vermont this afternoon in Burlington. The Saints rallied for two fifth inning runs to take a 5-4 win in the opener. In the second game, the Catamounts posted a four run seventh inning to walk off with a 9-8 victory on their home field.

Vermont managed four runs on starter Ryan King (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) by the conclusion of the third inning. Although, King settled down over the next two innings allowing for a late Siena (2-22, 1-5) comeback in game one.

Eric Mruczek (Batavia, N.Y.) sparked the Saints rally with a RBI single in the fourth inning for the first of a two hit outing. Jake Willis doubled to center in the very next inning to get the Saints offense going. Willis also finished with two hits in the game.

Willis scored the first run of the fifth inning, while Rick Seltzer (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) managed the second resulting from a Vermont error to give the Saints a 5-4 advantage. Andy Wells pitched a hitless final two innings to secure Siena's second win of the season.

In the nightcap, Jason DeFilippo (Gloucester, Mass./Stoneham) and Chris Klepps (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) managed three hits apiece helping the Saints jump out to an 8-5 advantage by the end of the sixth. A three run fifth inning, thanks to RBIs from Seltzer and Mruczek, gave Siena a comfortable lead.

However, Vermont's four run seventh inning spoiled the Saints potential series sweep. Siena reliever Craig Marcellus (0-4) opened the bottom portion of the inning walking three straight hitters to load up the bases. A wild pitch scored Will Huntington, and then moments later an Ethan Paquette sacrifice fly scored Bryan Rembisz.

Kyle Massie lined a single into centerfield which drove in the tying run. Jeff Heppner ended the game in the very next at bat with a flare into right field for the game ending hit.

Ryan Burke (Weston, Conn./Weston) managed two hits for the Saints in their second game.

Siena returns to action on Thursday at Connecticut. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
