Final Stats
Siena turned to unorthodox measures to pick up its fifth win of the season in Loudonville on Thursday. The Saints used nine pitchers - one per inning - in disposing of non-league foe Maine 4-2.
Phil Cahill's two-out RBI single in the first put the Saints up for good. Moises Rivera, who transferred from Maine, drove home a run in the sixth with a sharp single to left and Jason DeFilippo's single to center in the top of the seventh plated two more runs as Siena staked its pitching fleet to a 4-0 advantage.
The first seven Siena (5-26) pitchers did not yield a run. Starter Corey Muscara did not allow a hit in his inning of work. Dan Miklas, pitched a scoreless second, striking out two. Miklas did not allow a base runner and was credited with the win. Bryan Wotherspoon, Frank Cebek, Maikel Hurtado and JJ Potrikus each allowed just one hit in their inning on the hill. Senior Trevor Reid pitched a hit-free fifth and Maikel Hurtado worked around two hits to not allow a run in the sixth.
Maine (13-21) finally broke through off Ryan King, scoring a run on two hits in the eighth Joel Barrett's RBI fielder's choice ground out accounted for the Black Bears first run of the game. The Black Bears added a run in the ninth off reliever Will Hassett on Billy Cather's run-scoring single to center. Hassett averted further damage to earn his second save of the season.
Short stop Chris Klepps had two hits and scored a run for the Saints. He also stole two bases. Reserve Travis Hasenfus went 2-for-2 for Maine.
The Saints travel to MAAC foe Fairfield for a three-game set with the Stags beginning Saturday at noon.
