Baseball Season Ends with 10-5 Loss to Marist

May 18, 2007

Final Stats

Siena lost its baseball season finale 10-5 to Marist Friday afternoon in Loudonville. Brian McDonough had two hits, a home run and three RBI to lead the Red Foxes. Marist secured a bid in next week's MAAC Championships with the victory.

Marist (20-30/14-12) scored in it first three at bats to build a 5-1 lead after three innings of play. Just one of the runs was earned, as Siena committed three of its costly five errors in the first third of the game.

Jason DeFilippo's two-run homerun in the fifth cut the lead to 5-3, as Siena (12-33/10-13) rallied behind the solid pitching of reliever Dan Miklas, who did not allow a run in two innings of work. Gary DerHagopian had gotten the Saints on the board with a home run in the second.

McDonough homered in Marist's next at bat, to stretch the lead to 6-3 and the Red Foxes added four unearned runs in the seventh to make it 10-3.

Drew Sgro's pinch-hit two-run single in the eighth accounted for the final 10-5 tally.

Junior Chris Klepps led the Saints with three hits and a run scored. Jake Willis and DeFilippo each had two hits. Siena out-hit Marist 12-11.

Adam Pernasilici led the visitors with three hits. McDonough, Keith Glasser and Justin LePore each had two.

Senior Trevor Reid started the game for the Saints, allowing one earned run in three innings of work. Classmate James Pacifico - the Saints only other senior - pitched a perfect ninth. He closed his career with four straight shutout appearances and led the team with a 2.55 ERA and a .190 batting average against.

Siena closes the season with a 12-33 overall record and a 10-13 mark in the MAAC. The Saints finished in seventh place in the league after ending in seventh a year ago.
