Baseball Bombs LeMoyne 10-8 in Series Finale

May 6, 2007

Final Stats

Rick Seltzer, Jake Willis and Gary DerHagopian all homered as Siena upset LeMoyne 10-8 in Syracuse Sunday. The Saints scored two runs in the top of the ninth as Seltzer doubled home his fourth and fifth RBI of the game to seal the win.

Willis singled to start the game and came around to score the first run a Chris Klepps' double. The Saints expanded their lead to 2-0 on Willis' home run, which led off the third.

LeMoyne got on the board on Mike Brown's RBI single in the third, but DerHagopian's solo home run in the fourth made the score 3-1. After the Dolphins answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, Siena struck for four runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Seltzer's three run home run highlighted the frame, which also featured Klepps' second RBI safety of the game. The Dolphins struck back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5. Andy Parrino and Chris Hayes each had RBI hits in the frame.

Jason DeFillipo scored Siena's eighth run in the top of the sixth on a passed ball, but the Dolphins scored three times in the bottom of the frame to tie the game. Parrino's two-run home run to left proceeded Stephen Crawford's game-tying RBI double.

Siena reliever James Pacifico then settled down, holding LeMoyne scoreless through the final third of the game to earn his first win of the season. Pacifico had seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.

The Saints ninth inning rally started with a two out single by Moises Riviera. Chris Klepps was then hit by a pitch and the pair came around to score on Seltzer's opposite field double.

Willis, Seltzer and freshman Anthony Giansanti each had two hits for Siena. Klepps went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

The win was arguably the biggest of the season for Siena, as preseason MAAC favorite LeMoyne was in a first place battle with Manhattan before falling to 16-3 in the conference with the setback. The Saints improved to 6-11 in MAAC play.

Siena hosts Canisius in MAAC action next Saturday with a doubleheader at noon.
