Final Stats
The Siena baseball team pounded out 20 hits and scored 15 runs but lost the opener 19-15 to power Central Florida in Orlando Saturday afternoon. The Knights won the second half of the doubleheader 9-6.
Chris Klepps went 5-for-6 and scored four runs for the Saints in the first game. Gary DerHagopian was 3-for-6 with four RBI and Jacob Willis went 3-for-6 with three RBI. Jason DeFilippo and Nick Messinger each added two hits in a losing effort.
Siena scored five runs in its first at bat and led 6-3 before UCF erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead for good. The Saints trailed 17-7 before scoring twice in the seventh and six times in the eighth to close within two runs. The Knights scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win.
In the nightcap, the Knights controlled the action throughout, carrying a 9-0 lead into the ninth inning.
Rick Seltzer's and Don DiPetta each hit two RBI doubles to highlight Siena's six-run rally in the ninth. Juan Amadour and Gary DerHagopian each had RBI hits for the Saints as well.
The two teams will complete the three-game set Sunday afternoon.
