Manhattan Silences Siena in Baseball Rubber Game

April 7, 2008

Final Stats

Dan Forman and Mike Gazzola combined for a two-hit shutout as Manhattan topped Siena 7-0 in the third and final game of a MAAC baseball series Monday at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale. Ryan King pitched three and two third innings of hitless relief for the Saints in a losing effort.

Manhattan scored twice in the third and fourth innings and three times in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Marc Giordano and Ruben Perez each homered for the Jaspers, now 12-12-1 on the season and 4-2 in MAAC play. Giordano's blast started the scoring in the third inning and Perez delivered a two-run shot in the fourth.

Siena, 7-18 overall and 4-5 in the MAAC, registered just a first inning single by Jacob Willis and a seventh inning safety off the bat of Don DiPetta.

Kevin Nieto and Ryan Masters each had two hits for Manhattan.

Forman tossed seven innings of two-hit ball with seven strikeouts. The lone blemish on his line was the issuance of six walks. Gazzola finished the job with two perfect innings of relief, registering two strikeouts.

The game lasted just two hours and 13 minutes.

Siena returns to action Tuesday at Siena Field with a doubleheader against Vermont slated for 2 p.m.
