Final Stats Game 2
Siena dropped two games in the Texas-Arlington Hilton Invitational Sunday, falling 10-5 in a matinee with Texas State and 13-0 in the nightcap against the host Mavericks.
The Saints fell behind 8-0 after three innings against Texas State before rallying. Eric Mruczek and Jason DeFilippo each had two hits in a losing effort for Siena.
Relievers Will Hassett and CJ Sohl allowed just two earned runs in 6.1 innings of work.
Bret Atwood started the four-hit three-run first inning for the Bobcats with a one-out double to right field and scored on Paul Goldschmidt's base hit up the middle that followed. Lance Loftin followed with a single to second base and moved into scoring position when Keith Prestridge hit an RBI single up the middle to plate Goldschmidt. The senior scored for Texas State's final run of the inning on a bases loaded walk.
Texas State had another big inning in the second, taking a 7-0 lead off four hits and an error from the short stop to put Sibley on base at leadoff. Atwood singled to third base and the pair came home on Goldschmidt's two-RBI double to right center.
Siena put its run on the board in the top of the fourth, sending Kevin Quaranto across for the unearned tally. The Saints scored twice in the sixth and eighth innings. Freshman Dan Paolini's groundout score the first run in the sixth and DeFilppo singled home the second.
Eric Mruczek and Jason DeFilippo both notched two hits to lead Siena.
Not much went right for the Saints in their second game of the day. Starter Matt Moberg allowed just two earned runs in his four innings of work, and Anthony Giansanti came on in relief to pitch a perfect eighth inning.
Don DiPetta, Paolini and Mruczek accounted for the Saints three hits. The Mavericks blew the game open with 11 runs in the sixth inning.
Siena will get another crack at UT-A Monday.
