Senior Drew Clementz threw seven innings in his third career start for Texas-Arlington allowing four hits and one run with a strikeout to lead the Mavericks to a 12-1 win over Siena on Monday. The Mavericks also tallied 18 base hits in the victory, as six players recorded multi-hit games including sophomore center fielder Michael Choice who led all players going 4-for-5 with four RBI and a triple.
Freshman second baseman Dan Paolini has two of the Saints four hits and Dan Miklas pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for Siena (1-3) which finished in third place in the four-team, three day Tournament.
The Mavericks tallied runs in six different innings, including three in the bottom of the first to grab an early 3-0 lead. Senior left fielder Blake Holt hit his first home run of the season with an opposite-field homer to lead-off the home half of the first inning.
Senior right fielder Andrew Kainer also hit an opposite field home run to right, giving him his second homer of the season. Kainer finished the game going 2-for-3. Senior catcher Chad Price made his season debut going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Mark Picca also made his season debut collecting three strikeouts in one inning of work. Senior Matt Dunn pitched the ninth for the Mavericks while posting one strikeout and not allowing a base hit.
The Saints only run came scored on an error following a Paolini single in the eight.
The Mavericks scored a total of 25 runs with 32 base hits against Siena in the final two games of the UTA Invitational.
Siena returns to action Tuesday at Lamar in the opener of a two-game series.
