Final Stats
Steven Tucker recorded three hits and teammate Joey Latulippe added three more plus a trio of RBI as Lamar posted a 6-1 victory in sweeping a mini two-game series from the Siena baseball team this afternoon in Beaumont, Texas. The loss was Siena's (1-5) fifth in a row, while Lamar improved to a perfect 6-0.
Siena looked like it was going to open things up early, loading the bases with nobody out in the top of the first. After Eric Mruczek popped out for the first out of the inning, freshman Dan Paolini chased home Don DiPetta on a sac fly to put the Saints up 1-0. But Jason DeFilippo grounded into a fielder's choice to end the threat and the Saints would not score again.
Lamar responded by plating a pair in the bottom of the inning and added a run in the third for a 3-1 advantage. They put the game away in the seventh with a pair of RBI singles from Tucker and Latulippe with the latter scoring the final run of the inning following a botched pickoff attempt.
Freshman Nicco Stento got the start for the Saints lasting four solid innings allowing six hits and two earned runs. Blake Ford allowed just one run over three innings of work with three strikeouts in picking up the win for Lamar.
Siena continues its nine game swing through the Lone Star State Thursday when they open a three game series at Dallas Baptist. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. Central Time.
