Dallas Baptist Finishes Sweep of Siena Nine

Feb. 28, 2009

Final Stats

The Siena baseball team lost a 14-6 decision at Dallas Baptist Saturday in the final game of its eight day, nine-game Texas tour. The Saints lost their last eight games of the trip after defeating Arkansas State in the season opener.

The Saints pounded out 14 hits Saturday, led by junior Anthony Giansanti and freshman backstop Kyle Barbato who had three hits each. Kevin Quaranto and Eric Mruczek added two hits each.

Siena jumped out to a 2-0 when Barbato doubled home two runs in the second, but Dallas Baptist tied the game with a pair of runs in the third. The Patriots added a single run in the fourth, but Siena answered with singles runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 4-3 lead.

Dallas Baptist broke the game open with four runs in the sixth, four in the seventh and three in the eighth, peppering the Siena bullpen after starter CJ Sohl and reliever Dan Pendleton held the Patriots' bats in check through the first four innings.

Leadoff man Ryan Enos had his second four-hit game of the weekend for the home team. He also scored four times, stole three bases and drove in two runs. Five other Patriot batters finished with two of the team's 18 hits. Dallas Baptist stole nine bases on the afternoon and took advantage of four Siena errors.

The Saints return to action March 6 for the start of a three-game series with Michigan in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
