The Siena water polo team dropped its final two games of the Wolverine Invite Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich., falling to host and 15th ranked Michigan, 13-3 and MAAC rival Marist by a 13-9 tally. Siena finishes the tournament 2-2 as its overall record now stands at 5-10 midway through the season.
In the opener, both teams battled to a defensive stalemate in the first period, with Siena securing the only goal for a 1-0 lead. But Michigan added four goals in the second to open a 4-2 halftime advantage and never looked back.
Lauren Garrigan scored a pair of goals, while Ann Arbor native Devan Ragg accounted for the other. Nicole Hagi and Gina Guevara picked up assists. Freshman Jennifer Kissel played the whole game in goal and made a career-high 15 saves while also recording two swipes.
Nine different Wolverines scored goals, led by Julie Hyrnes four as Michigan defeated Siena for a second time this season. The Wolverines also downed Siena 15-4 in the season opener at the Harvard Invitational on Feb. 15.
In the final game of the day, Marist opened a 4-1 advantage after the first period and while Siena scored multiple goals in the final three periods it was not enough as the Saints fell to 0-19 all-time against their MAAC foe.
Garrigan and Ragg concluded stellar weekends with multiple point efforts. Garrigan tallied five goals, three of which came on 6-on-5 opportunities and also added an assist. Ragg meanwhile added a goal and three assists. For the four game tournament, Garrigan finished with 17 goals and four assists for 21 points, while Ann Arbor native Ragg was close behind with five goals and 11 assists for 16 points.
Camille Norman was also strong against the Red Foxes, scoring two goals and adding four assists while drawing a pair of ejections. Kissel again got the start in goal and tallied 11 saves.
Siena returns to action Monday for their home opener against Colorado College. Game time has been moved up to 11 a.m.
