Box Score
After hitting a bit of a rough patch at the start of the season, the Saints are finding their stride at just the right time. Freshman James Beeston scored the game-tying goal and set up the eventual winner as the Saints moved to 2-0 in the MAAC with a 3-1 road triumph at Fairfield. Siena improved to 4-1-1 in its last six matches to move back to .500 for the year.
Beeston, who has now recorded seven points in his past six games, swayed momentum quickly in Siena's (5-5-1, 2-0) favor early in the second half. Fairfield (2-5-5, 1-2) had taken a 1-0 lead into intermission, but the Saints came out firing on all cylinders in the second half.
The English freshman tied the match in the 53' when he picked up a loose ball and fired home his second goal of the season. A mere 67 seconds later, Beeston helped give the Saints the lead for good.
Off a Beeston corner, red-hot senior Steve Covino corralled the service and fired it into the back of the net to give the Saints the 2-1 lead. Covino, who scored two goals including the game-winner in the MAAC lid-lifter Saturday vs. Marist, tallied his second decisive goal in as many games.
Emery Welshman added his fifth goal of the year in the waning minutes to put an exclamation point on the victory. Siena, which entered the game ranked 18th nationally in scoring, has now scored 20 goals in its five wins and one tie this season.
The Saints aim to remain unbeaten in October when they return to the pitch Sunday afternoon at Iona for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
