Box Score
Siena women's soccer is now a perfect 10-0. The Saints scored a pair of goals in the first 17 minutes and possessed the ball the rest of the way in a 2-1 victory at Saint Peter's. Caitlin Cahalan and Lindsay Tegas scored for the Saints which have won eight of their 10 matches on the road this season.
"It was nice to get another win on the road," said head coach Steve Karbowski. "We did enough to win the game with two goals early and just tried to possess the ball and hold on after that."
Siena (10-0, 2-0) did just that as despite a Saint Peter's (3-8, 0-2) goal in the 24', Siena was able to play strong defensively and maintain possession to hold on for the victory. The Saints, which remained as the only undefeated and untied team left in all of Division I, have proven to be true road warriors as the Green and Gold have now gone unbeaten in 19 of their last 22 road matches dating back to late in the 2007 season.
"It's great to be able to win on the road," added Karbowski. "You have to play under different conditions and it prepares you more for the rest of the conference and hopefully postseason. It's a tribute to the players to get themselves ready and be able to play and win under a variety of conditions."
Siena, which entered the match ranking 20th nationally in scoring, wasted no time in building an early lead. Just over six minutes in senior captain Jenna Placke broke down the left side and served a long ball to Cahalan who received it at the corner of the 18'. The reigning MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year then spun to the middle, got by her defender and hit a great shot into the upper corner at the near post for her second tally of the season.
Before the Peahens could regroup Tegas made it 2-0 10 minutes later. Ashleigh Barone played a ball across the box far post to Tegas who got her head on the ball and sent it back towards the other corner of the net and across the keepers' momentum for her third goal.
Saint Peter's got on the board just eight minutes later when Emily Fenice blasted in a goal from 25 yards out to make it a game, but that would be all that the Peahens could manage. The Saints out-shot Saint Peter's 17-9 and took three corners to one.
Senior keeper Elizabeth Barna got the start in goal and made three saves to earn her fourth victory of the season.
The Saints return home and receive a major test to their unblemished record Friday when they host perennial MAAC power Loyola at 4 p.m.
