Final Stats

Siena's first trip to the NCAA Tournament ended with a 5-1 loss to Georgetown Friday night at Ludwig Field on the campus of the University of Maryland. Camille Trujillo scored twice, and Christina O'Tousa handed out two assists to lead the Hoyas.

The Hoyas made sure Siena's first trip to the Big Dance was a brief one, controlling possession throughout and finishing their chances.

"We ran up against a great team," head coach Steve Karbowski said. "This Georgetown team was excellent in their possession, their athleticism, their speed. I thought we played well and fought hard, but with a lot of defending, there's going to be breakdowns eventually.'

The Saints won 17 games, including their first MAAC Championship in program history.

"I told (the team) that I'm proud of them," head coach Steve Karbowski said after the game. "We have a lot to be proud of."

The turning point in the game came late in the first half when Tabitha Tice scored with just over a minute remaining to cut Georgetown's lead to 2-1. It seemed as if Siena would take the momentum into the half, but Colleen Den headed in a rebound following a deep throw-in with just 2.4 seconds remaining to give the Hoyas a two-goal advantage at the break.

The Saints couldn't manage a serious threat in the second half, and Georgetown tacked on two insurance goals by the 57th minute. The five goals were the most allowed by the Saints all season. The previous high was 3 in a 4-3 loss to Providence on September 3. In fact, the Saints defense had allowed just five combined goals in its previous six games.

When asked what the future holds for his program, Karbowski was matter-of-fact.

"The standard is set high now," he said. "We'll be back next year. We return a lot of good players. This group of seniors was special, but we'll be back."
