Final Stats Game 2
Stetson swept a twinight doubleheader from Siena Tuesday night, winning the first game 13-10 and the second 10-3. The Hatters took the final three games of the series after losing the opener Saturday 8-5. The doubleheader was played because Monday night's game was rained out.
Stetson scored eight runs in the second inning of game one to take control of the game. After falling behind 10-1 through three innings, Siena scored five times in the fifth and twice in the sixth to close within 11-8 and setup an exciting finish.
Dan Paolini's second home run of the season, a three-run blast in the fifth, highlighted the Saints' rally. The Hatters added some insurance with two runs in the seventh, but Siena scored single runs in the eighth and ninth to make things interesting. Paolini's second home run of the game - a solo shot to lead off the ninth - accounted for Siena's final run of the game.
Paolini finished the opener with three hits, two runs scored and five RBI. Hot-hitting freshman Mike Fish had two hits, marking the third straight multi-hit game to start his career. Classmate Larry Balkwill was the other Saint to finish with a pair of hits as the Saints posted 12 safeties. Siena handled Stetson pitching well in the four game series, tallying 29 runs.
Steston controlled the second game, scoring the first eight runs with two in the third, five in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Kevin Quaranto was the offensive star for the Saints, collecting two hits, including a two run home run in eighth. Paolini also finished with two hits as did senior Anthony Giansanti.
Siena plays at Florida Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
