Final Stats
Larry Balkwill drove in the winning run in the top of the ninth as Siena held on for the 9-8 win over NYIT this afternoon in Old Westbury. The loss drops the Bears to 3-6 on the season, while Siena improves to 8-11.
Siena scored three times in the top of the second. Kevin Quaranto led off the frame with a homer and Larry Balkwill came around to score on William Cardona's RBI single. The Saints tacked on another run in the third on Gary DerHagopian's sacrifice fly to take a 4-1 lead.
Greg Gilroy's RBI double and Ryan Campbell's two-RBI double in the bottom half of the third tied the score at 4-4.
In the fifth Dan Paolini homered to left center to give the Saints a 5-4 lead. It was the third straight game he went deep. Andy Carucci then cleared the bases with a triple to right center to increase Siena'a advantage to 8-4.
The Bears answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore Sebastian Grazziani got things started with a two run homerun.
In the ninth Paolini tripled with two outs and Balkwill followed with the infield single to drive in the game-winning run.
Anthony Giansanti pitched the final 1.1 innings to pick up his first win.
