Radford ended Siena's five-game win streak with a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Radford. The Highlanders won the first game 14-5 and the second 4-3.
Dan Paolini's ninth home run of the season highlighted a two-run first that got Siena off and running in the opener. Kevin Quaranto followed Paolini's blast with hjs fourth long ball of the year and Siena led 2-0 after its first at bat.
Radford responded decisively scoring three times in the bottom of the first and eight times in the second to take firm control of the game and chase freshman starter Justin Brantley.
Quaranto, catcher Larry Balkwill and reserve Al Williams all posted multi-hit games in the nine-inning opener for Siena. Radford's 15-hit attack was led by Raphael Turner and Robert Lamas who had three hits apiece. Turner had one of three Radford home runs.
Paolini started the scoring in the nightcap as well, launching his 10th home run in the top of the first. The sophomore slugger is on pace to crush the school single season home run record and the Saints have played just one home game at righty friendly Siena Field.
Radford again offered a prompt response, tying the game in the bottom of the first and taking a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third.
Anthony Giansanti's two-run home run in the fifth cut the lead to its final margin, 4-3.
Matt Hillsinger and Tyren Rivers joinedTurner with multi-hit nightcaps for Radford which improved to 12-8. Siena fell to 8-13.
The two teams complete their three game weekend set Sunday at 11 a.m.
