Siena men's golf shot a sub-300 round and extended its overall lead following the second of three rounds at the 2010 MAAC Championships in Celebration, Fla. Siena, which led by two strokes after 18 holes, now holds a 10 shot advantage over second place Loyola.
The Saints shot the best round of the day at 299, five strokes better than the Greyhounds which moved from fourth to second place. Rider and Iona still remain in contention for the title, trailing the Saints by 15 and 17 strokes respectively.
Don DeNyse III rounded into form Saturday, firing a team-low round of 74 to move into a four-way tie for third place with a two round total of 149. Rider's Sean Fitzpatrick struggled to a second round score of 77 but still remains the individual leader with a score of 145.
Siena has received strong contributions throughout the weekend from all of its competitors and is the only school with four players ranking in the top-10. Justin Deitz (150) is tied for seventh overall, while first round team leader Jeff Smith (151) is tied for ninth.
After shooting an 80 on Friday, freshman David Gushee rebounded nicely to shoot the best score of the day with an even-par round of 72. Gushee (151) also ranks tied for ninth with Smith.
Siena will look to complete the wire-to-wire victory and capture its fourth MAAC Championship and third in the past five years when final round action tees off tomorrow morning.
