Final Stats
Siena women's soccer did something it hadn't yet this season. After rallying in their first three games to defeat UConn, Stony Brook and Providence, the Saints finally scored first and earned a clean sheet. The result was the same as Siena defeated Quinnipiac 1-0 Friday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.
"It was a good result," head coach Steve Karbowski said. "Liz [Barna] was very good off her line and the defenders were focused on not letting anything through."
Barna made five saves to earn Siena's first shutout of the season.
Siena (4-0) outshot Quininpiac (0-3) 15-12 in an evenly played match. Siena had two quality chances in the first half, both for Ashleigh Barone. On the first chance she toe-poked a cross but didn't get enough on it. Later in the half, Gabby Racines served a ball into the box and Barone's shot beat the keeper but was saved off the line by a defender.
Junior midfielder Lindsay Tegas provided the lone goal in the 51st minute. A Siena cross wasn't cleared and Tegas hit the ball left footed, placing it inside the far post. It was her first goal of the season.
The Saints return to action on Sunday when they face New Hampshire in Durham, N.H.
