Final Stats
The Siena baseball team lost by one run for the fifth time in its last six games Sunday, falling 5-4 at Charleston Southern in the series finale. Dan Paolini went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBI to lead the 0-9 Saints.
Siena was victimized by poor defense, committing four errors and allowing three unearned runs.
Senior Zach Hartman had his second straight strong outing for the Saints, allowing just one earned run in six innings. He struck out four and sacrificed six hits.
Siena out-hit Charleston Southern 12-9 behind Paolini and sophomore Mike Fish (2-for-4).
Brantley Meier had three hits for CSU, including a bunt single that ignited a key seventh inning rally that gave the Bucs a 5-3 lead. Paolini walked and scored in the ninth to account for the final margin.
Jesse Cadenhead got the start for the Bucs, giving up nine hits and three runs in 6.0 innings while striking out seven.
Neil Fryer took the loss for Siena, giving up 3 hits and two runs in 2.0 innings.
Siena took an early lead in the first inning, as John Rooney walked, then stole second before Paolini homered for the third time this season to make it 2-0.
The Saints travel to Fairleigh Dickenson next weekend for a three-game series.
