Saints Show Well in Marist Invite

Oct. 8, 2012

Final Stats

The Siena women's tennis team had a strong showing in the Marist Invitational this past weekend in Poughkeepsie. Highlights included: a Flight B Doubles Championship for seniors Elora Benfer and Brittany Filip, and singles wins for freshmen Allysa Singh and Erika Reagan.

"I am very happy for our two seniors to win the main draw of the B Flight doubles," head coach Andy Christodoulou said. "They played with poise, and their experience made the deference. They kept their composure throughout."

Siena competed alongside MAAC members Marist and Saint Peter's, and Benfer and Filip bested two Marist teams and one Saint Peter's squad to take the Flight B title.

Singh scored an impressive 8-4 win over Marist's Joana Sun in Flight A singles to reach the finalist round.

"Allysa proved she can dictate play with her pinpoint accuracy on the serve, and her consistent ground strokes, Christodoulou said. "The scary part is she will only get better."

Reagan's win came over Jessica Nowodgrodski of Saint Peter's.

"Erika was also huge for us," Christodoulou said. "She's playing a high percentage game. It was smart and aggressive tennis."

The Saints play their final match of the fall Wednesday at Hartford.
