Final Stats
Siena out-hit Liberty 13-11, but the Saints couldn't cash in on their opportunities in a 6-2 loss to the Flames in Lynchburg Friday. The start of the game was delayed nearly two hours due to rain.
The game was tied 1-1 in the third after Kyle Baldani's RBI single for the Saints (0-4), but Liberty (6-0) scored five unanswered runs to take command.
Bryan Aanderud led the charge for the Flames, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI. The second baseman also had five putouts and six assists in the field.
Siena starter Justin Brantley tossed six innings, allowing four earned runs. He scattered eight hits and hit four batters. Neil Fryer relieved Brantley and worked two innings, allowing a run on three hits.
Baldani, John Rooney, Mike Allen and Ted Trymbiski each had two hits for Siena. All nine starters hit safely for the Saints.
Liberty touched up Brantley for a run in the second, third and fourth innings, and scored twice in the fifth. Siena scored its runs in the third and ninth inning.
John Niggli (2-0) worked 5.2 innings, and although he allowed 10 hits, he picked up the win for the Flames.
The two teams will play a doubleheader at noon Saturday and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
