Saints Lose Lead, Game at Liberty

Feb. 26, 2012

Final Stats

The Siena baseball team finished off a highly competitive four-game set at Liberty Sunday with a 4-2 loss. The Flames rallied from 2-0 down with a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh.

The Saints used seven pitchers, and only one gave up an earned run.

Tyler Bell singled home Ken Kirshner, who led off the third with a triple, for the game's first run in the third. Those were the only two hits the Saints registered all day. Kyle Baldani's sacrifice fly later in the inning plated the second.

Freshmen Matt Gage, Rick Morales and Ed Lewicki held Liberty scoreless through five innings, but the Flames tied the game with two runs in the sixth.

Liberty reliever Shawn Clowers played a key role in the win. He took over in the top of the fifth, and handcuffed Siena the rest of the way, pitching five no-hit, scoreless innings. The left-hander allowed only one baserunner during his five frames of relief, enabling the Flames to erase their deficit and record the win.

Shortstop Zack Haley recorded his first three-hit game of the year for the Flames by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Liberty moves to 8-1 on the year. Siena drops to 1-7 on the season. The Flames took three out of four games between the two teams on the weekend. Liberty and Siena had never met on the baseball diamond before this series.

The Saints have a three-game set in Orlando against Central Florida next weekend.
