Box Score

Siena baseball turned things around Wednesday in a big way. One day after a 14-1 defeat against Army, the Green and Gold thumped NYIT 7-2 in Old Westbury, N.Y., behind an offense that produced 13 hits on the afternoon.

Siena (9-23) opened the scoring in the top of the third, when Brian Fay singled home Ken Kirshner after the former doubled to lead off the inning. The Saints piled it on with two more in the fourth, when Tyler Bell drove in a pair with a single to right field.

While the Siena offense went to work, the Saints also got a solid outing from freshman pitcher Chris Kearney. The righty pitched into the sixth inning, yielding just one run on five hits.

NYIT got their run off Kearney in the sixth, but Siena's offense was far from finished. The Saints exploded for four runs in the seventh, with Kyle Baldani leading the charge with a two-run single. Siena relievers Andrew Sawyer and Ed Lewicki did the job the rest of the way, allowing just a single score in the ninth when the game was well in hand.

Fay, Baldani, and Dan Sullivan all had three hits in the win, and Bell went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. Kearney, meanwhile, improved to a perfect 2-0 on the year with the victory.

Siena returns to MAAC play with a huge series this weekend at Marist. It kicks off with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Poughkeepsie.
