Charleston Southern Wins Rubber Game

March 10, 2013

Final Stats

Charleston Southern scored five unearned runs off Saints' starter Bryan Goossens in an 8-3 win Sunday, winning the weekend series two games to one. Mike Fish had three hits and drove in all three Siena runs.

CSU struck for single runs in their first two at bats and broke the game open with a four-run fourth. Jaren Sustar had three of CSU's 15 hits and drove in one of the four runs in the fourth.

CSU starter Tony Schroff improved to 3-0 on the season on the hill. He didn't allow a run until Fish hit a solo home run in the sixth, and he finished with seven strikeouts.

Siena used seven different pitchers. Kyano Cummings, Rick Morales, Carlos Cabrera and Dan Dopico each had scoreless outings.

Goossens gave up 10 hits in just 3.1 innings or work, more than he had allowed in his first three appearances this season combined.

Fish accounted for Siena's final two runs with a bases-loaded single in the seventh, but CSU answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to retake command.

Siena returns south next weekend for a four-game series at Charlotte.
