Final Stats
Mike Fish homered twice, drove in five runs and scored five times in Siena's 16-4 rout of Saint Peter's Saturday in Jersey City. The second game was postponed due to rain, meaning the series will be completed with a doubleheader Sunday at noon at Jaroschak Field.
The Saints pounded out 19 hits and scored three runs or more in four of their nine at bats. Fish and freshman shortstop Tyler Martis each had four hits, John Rooney had three, and Vincent Citro, Larry Balkwill and Brian Fay each had two.
The Saints scored four times in the second after falling behind 1-0, and never trailed again. The lead was 9-1 after the fourth when Fish launched his first long ball, a three-run shot to left that opened the flood gates.
Fish followed his three-run blast with a two-run homer in the fifth, and then Balkwill went deep to make it back-to-back round trippers.
Ed Lewicki pitched eight effective innings for his fourth win of the season. He allowed four runs and 10 hits, but walked just one and had complete command of the game thanks to Siena's offense. Bryan Goossens came on to close the game in the ninth, allowing just one base runner.
Siena inches closer to claiming a spot in the four-team MAAC Tournament. The Saints have a three-game lead on fifth place Manhattan with five games left. The two teams play a three-game series in Loudonville Thursday and Friday.
