Nine-Run Second Does in Saints

Feb. 15, 2014

Final Stats

Central Florida erupted for nine runs in the second and coasted from there in an 11-4 win over Siena Saturday in Orlando, Fla. Freshman centerfielder Dan Swain continued his torrid start with a pair of hits and RBI for the Saints.

Swain's two-run single staked Siena to a 2-0 lead in the second, marking the second time in as many days the Saints' got on the scoreboard first.

UCF seized control with nine runs on seven hits in the second. Kam Gellinger evened the game with a two-run homer off Siena starter Ed Lewicki, and James Vasquez and Erik Barber each had two-run hits later in the frame.

Lewicki exited in the third and Siena's bullpen did a nice job keeping the Knights in check from there. Jim Meindl, Justin Scala, Kyano Cummings and Neil Fryer each had scoreless appearances. Scala went 2.1 innings without allowing a run and Cummings had his second straight strong performance.

Siena senior captain Vincent Citro finished 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the seventh. The Saints closed the gap to 9-4 before the seventh inning stretch, but the Knights struck back for two runs in the bottom half of the frame to put the game on ice.

Spencer Davis worked five innings of five-hit, two run ball to pick up the win for UCF. Joe Marotta and Tyler Martin closed the door with hitless relief performances. Derrick Salberg, Tommy Williams, Barber and Gellinger each had two hits for UCF which out-hit Siena 12-8.

The two teams complete their three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. Bryan Goossens gets the ball for the Saints.
