The MAAC Conference announced the 2014 MAAC Softball Awards at the MAAC Championship banquet Wednesday evening. The Saints had four All-MAAC selections led by Jessika-Jo Sandrini and Abby Carpenter on the First Team.
Sandrini was named to the 2014 All-MAAC First Team as a pitcher for the first time in her four-year career. Sandrini earned second team honors as a pitcher in each of the last two seasons.
Sandrini had a career year in the circle, leading the MAAC in all major pitching statistics with 19 wins, 154 strikeouts and a 2.46 ERA. Sandrini set individual records with career highs in wins and strikeouts and in the process became the Saints All-Time leader in program history with 54 wins, 473 strikeouts and tied the program record for with 65 complete games in her career.
Abby Carpenter earned her first career All-MAAC team selection, joining Sandrini on the First Team as an infielder. Carpenter led the Saints with six home runs and 29 RBIs this season.
Stephanie Viggiano and Alyssa Lancaster were also honored, being named to the 2014 All-MAAC Second Team.
Viggiano leads the Saints with a .359 batting average with a MAAC leading 59 hits in the regular season with a team leading 13 doubles. Viggiano was named to the CoSIDA All-Academic District I First Team last week.
Lancaster was second on the team with a .338 batting average and finished behind Viggiano with 47 hits. Lancaster hit her only home run in the Saints season finale against Niagara on May 4.
Siena also had six members named to the 2014 MAAC Softball All-Academic Team as announced by the league at the banquet. Juniors Abby Carpenter (Accounting), Antonia Edwards (Management), Stephanie Viggiano (Accounting), Megan Volz (Finance) and sophomores Melanie Kalesse (Accounting) and Mackenzie Cronin (Biology) were all honored.
