Jan. 7, 2015 2015 Schedule
Siena Softball Head Coach Bill Lajeunesse has revealed his program's 2015 schedule. The Saints will play 53 regular season contests this spring, featuring teams from 12 different conferences.
"We are very excited about our 2015 schedule. We see it as a very competitive and challenging schedule giving us the chance to compete against a number of teams from different conferences," said Lajeunesse, "Our early season tournaments will challenge us as we will face a number of teams we have not played in recent years. This competition will allow us to face teams with different styles and levels of play, which will help us prepare for the MAAC season."
The Saints open up their season Friday February 20 against Columbia at 6:30 p.m. The game is part of the EMU Madeira Beach Spring Invitational, the first of four invitational/tournaments to open the season for the Siena. After a 5-game set in Madeira Beach, the Saints travel to Jacksonville, Fla., Baltimore, Md., and Emmitsburg, Md. for the Osprey Invitational, UMBC Spring Classic and Mount Saint Mary's Tournament, respectively.
After 23 games on the road to open the season Siena will play their first home game Wednesday April 1st, a double-header against Colgate. The Saints will have 18 home games on the season.
The Saint's non-conference schedule features teams from 11 different conferences including four America East teams (UMass-Lowell, Stony Brook, UAlbany, Hartford.) There are eight common non-conference opponents from last year, against which Siena went a combined 6-8. Four teams on the schedule made NCAA Tournament appearances last year (Kansas, UAlbany, Fordham, Iona.)
The Saints open up conference play March 28th when they travel to take on MAAC runner-up Manhattan. They see Fairfield for the first time April 12th. Last year Siena defeated Fairfield in the MAAC tournament for their second MAAC tournament win in program history. They play six of their last eight regular-season contests at home ending the season against defending MAAC Champion Iona on May 3rd.
The 2015 MAAC Championship will again feature six teams and will be held May 6-10 at the sites of the higher seeds. The Saints roster features six seniors who return from a team that won a program record 29 games last season.
