April 11, 2015 Final Stats
New York Tech swept a non-league doubleheader from Siena 11-2 and 3-1 Saturday in New Rochelle. The two teams will complete their weekend four-game set with a twinbill in Loudonville Sunday at noon.
Game 1 - NYIT 11, Siena 2
NYIT sprinted to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and broke the game wide open with a seven-run sixth in an 11-2 victory.
Louis Mele went 2-for-3 with four RBI and Anthony Martelli had two hits and a pair of runs driven in for the Bears.
Freshman Jordan Bishop double twice for the Saints, and classmate Phil Madonna was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Matt Diaz pitched into the sixth allowing seven hits and two runs to pick up the win for NYIT. Ed Lewicki suffered the loss for the Saints and was charged with 11 earned runs in his 5.1 innings of work.
Neither team made an error.
Game 2 - NYIT 3, Siena 1
Siena took a 1-0 lead on Jordan Bishop's third double of the day - an RBI shot down the right field line that chased home Dan Swain who doubled with two outs.
NYIT answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, and added an insurance tally in the fifth.
Joe Daru, John Canabal and Gerson Sotolongo each had two hits for the Bears. Five different Saints hit safely.
Elias Matrinez went the distance for NYIT to pick up his first win of the season. Martinez allowed just the one run and five hits.
Bryan Goossens suffered his fifth loss of the season for the Saints despite striking out eight and allowing three runs in 5.1 innings.
The Saints will get a chance for revenge Sunday at home.
