Siena took its home field as defending MAAC Champions for the first time this season in a conference series, and the Saints looked every bit the part of a team that won't give up the crown easily. Siena swept Manhattan 6-2 and 5-4 Saturday, their fourth straight conference win and fifth straight victory this week.

Game 1 - Siena 6, Manhattan 2

Ed Lewicki and Matt Quintana kept the Jaspers bats at bay and Siena's offense continued its improved play with an 11-hit, six run effort.

The Saints came out swinging in their first at bat, scoring two runs on Dave Hoffmann's two-run, two-out single through the left side of the infield.

Manhattan tied the game with two runs in the third on a suicide squeeze by Matt Forlow, and an RBI single by Joe McClennan.

Justin Esquerra homered with one out in the bottom of the third, and Siena led the rest of the way.

The Saints took a 6-2 lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Brian Fay and a two-run single by Joe Drpich.

Ed Lewicki evened his record at 3-3 with five solid innings. Lewicki allowed just two runs and scattered nine hits. Matt Quintana was brilliant in relief, working the final four innings and allowing just a single hit while striking out three to pick up his third save of the season.

Jordan Bishop joined Esquerra, Fay and Hoffmann with a two-hit game for Siena. Matt Forlow and Michael Pfenninger each had two hits for Manhattan.

Game 2 - Siena 5, Manhattan 4

Siena again went to work early, batting around and scoring three runs in the first inning to take command. Dan Swain singled to lead off the game and scored on Fay's single. Hoffmann followed with a two-run double, and Dan Lowndes walked with the bases loaded to force home the third run.

Swain led off the second inning with a towering home run to left, getting back a run the Saints had given up in the top of the frame.

Manhattan rallied in the sixth, scoring three runs to pull within 5-4. Vin Teixera's two-run home run with nobody out capped the scoring.

Kyano Cummings dug in after allowing the home run, striking out the next three men he faced to get out of the sixth. He then worked around a two-out single in the seventh to nail down his fifth save of the season.

Bryan Goossens worked the first five innings and allowed three runs and seven hits to earn his second win of the season.

Swain, Fay and Hoffmann each had two hits in the second game for Siena.

The teams complete their three game series with a single nine-inning game Sunday at noon.
