Stetson scored twice in the sixth inning and added an insurance run in the seventh to move past Siena by a final of 5-3 in DeLand, Fla. Junior Dan Swain hit his first home run of the season in a losing effort for the Saints.
Siena took the lead in the top of the second inning on Brian Kelly's single to left field. Jordan Folgers scored the go ahead run on a throwing error by centerfielder Vance Vizcaino.
The Hatters answered with a tally of their own to tie the game at one when John Fussell grounded out to second base to drive in the tying run.
The teams traded runs in the fifth and seventh innings. A two RBI double down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth by Matt Morales helped Stetson take the lead and distance themselves from Siena with the lead at 4-2.
Saints pitcher Tom Miller tossed five and one-third innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits along with one walk and three strikeouts. Freshman John Nolan entered the game in relief, going two and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on three hits while facing 11 batters.
Swain and Kelly led the team with two hits and one RBI apiece. Folgers added two hits while Jordan Bishop, Fred Smart, and Alex Tuccio added one hit each to pace the Saints offense.
Siena concludes their two-game set with Stetson Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
