Here's Ten Things to Know About Today's Game
1) Siena begins its quest for a second Division I national postseason tournament title. The Saints completed a magical run going 5-1 to capture the 2014 CBI Championship, after having entered the tournament with a losing overall record.
2) Siena makes its 13th Division I national postseason tournament appearance and fifth in the past nine seasons. The Saints have made six NCAA, five NIT and now two CBI appearances, posting a stellar 18-12 (.600) overall record.
3) Siena is 12-3 all-time in Division I national postseason tournament home games including 10-2 in Albany.
4) The Saints boast a 60-35 (.632) overall record against the 15 other schools that comprise the 2016 CBI field, although 87 of those 95 games have come against regional rivals and America East foes UAlbany and Vermont. Siena has never before faced eight of the 15 other programs in the field, including their first round opponent Morehead State.
5) Juniors Lavon Long (980) and Marquis Wright (976) stand on the precipice of eclipsing 1,000 career points. Red-shirt junior and 2014 CBI MVP Brett Bisping scored his 1,000th career point Feb. 19 at Rider.
6) Freshman guard Nico Clareth needs just eight more points to break the program's freshman scoring record set by Michael Haddix during the 2002-03 season (440). The MAAC Sixth Player of the Year and All-Rookie Team selection's 13.1 points per game scoring average is the fifth highest by a freshman in program history and fourth highest during the Division I era.
7) Siena has already recorded the program's 20th 20-win campaign in the 75-year season history of Siena Basketball and 16th in the past 32 seasons.
8) The Saints have played nine games against teams ranked in the top-77 of the RPI, posting a 3-6 record which includes a victory over St. Bonaventure (30). Siena's non-conference RPI currently stands 44th and non-conference strength of schedule is a MAAC-best 66th.
9) The Saints rank 12th nationally in rebound margin (+8.3). Siena had out-rebounded their opponents in 11 straight games and by an average margin of 11.8, before being tied on the glass in their MAAC Semifinals loss to eventual tournament champion Iona.
10) A unanimous First Team All-MAAC selection and also tabbed to the MAAC All-Tournament Team, Bisping is averaging 13.0 rebounds over the past 15 games. He has tallied at least nine rebounds in each of those games and on four occasions has tied a career-high with 18 rebounds during the stretch. Bisping ranks 19th nationally in rebounding (10.5) and eighth in defensive rebounding (8.2).
