LOUDONVILLE, NY – New Siena Men's Basketball Head Coach
Nevada Smith has announced his sixth new addition since taking the helm, with the signing of New Zealand prospect Mana Martin.
"Mana brings a great skill set and mind to us from New Zealand," said Smith. "He wants to be great, and will be a guy who is constantly in the gym working on his game. His competitiveness separates him and gives him the confidence to play against the best in the world. Mana will have a chance to do some great things in his time at Siena."
A 6-5, 210-pound guard with a 6-10 wingspan from Lincoln, New Zealand, Martin is in his third season with the Canterbury Rams who compete in the National Basketball League in New Zealand. Named the MVP of the NZU20 Nationals earlier this week, he has appeared in 11 games so far this season, averaging 4.5 points in 11.3 minutes, while shooting a stellar 55% overall from the floor including 41% from three-point range. Martin scored a career-high 19 points on 7-11 shooting (4-8 from three) in his first professional start for Canterbury back on May 9.
Martin starred for the Rams in the Sky Broadband Rapid League last season, where he ranked second in the league averaging 12.5 points in just 12.9 minutes. He shot 55% from the field, including 39% from three.
A 2025 New Zealand U20 National Champion, Martin broke out at the 2025 NBA Global Academy Games for the New Zealand Select Team. He led the event in both scoring (17.8) and made threes (17), while shooting 36% from distance and adding 1.7 steals spanning six games.
Martin competed for his native New Zealand at both the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup – where he averaged 4.4 points for the fourth-place finisher – and averaged 8.0 points at the 2023 FIBA U16 Asia Cup.
Martin attended St. Thomas of Canterbury where he was named Finals MVP after leading his team to the 2023 Thompson Trophy (high school regional) Championship.
