April 16, 2016

Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

Joe Drpich homered and drove in four runs and Kyano Cummings stuck out a career-high 11 batters as Siena Baseball secured a split of its series opening doubleheader with a 6-2 victory in the nightcap over MAAC frontrunner Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J. The Hawks scored all 10 of their runs in the fourth inning in capturing the opener 10-4.

Game One: Monmouth 10, Siena 4
Monmouth (18-16, 8-3) registered nine hits and sent 15 men to the plate during the decisive fourth inning. Siena (11-21, 6-5) had entered the frame harboring a 1-0 lead following a Fred Smart RBI single in the top of the inning.

Robbie Alessandrine and Ryan Bailey each recorded two hits in the inning for the Hawks, driving in three and two runs respectively. Dan Shea also added a two-run single in the inning.

The Saints mounted a three-run rally in the seventh fueled by RBI singles from Phil Madonna and Jordan Bishop, but they weren't nearly enough to overcome the sizeable deficit. Bishop finished with a pair of singles to continue his hot stretch with his eighth multiple hit game in his last 12.

Game Two: Siena 6, Monmouth 2 (7)
Siena wasted no time in building an early advantage in the nightcap. Dan Swain led off the game with a home run and after Bishop singled, Drpich deposited a two-run blast of his own to give the Saints a 3-0 lead through its first three batters.

The Hawks chipped away with single runs in the home halves of the first and fifth innings to ultimately pull within a run, but Drpich drove home a pair of key insurance runs in the sixth to extend the lead. Drpich finished with three hits overall in the nightcap.

Meanwhile Cummings did the rest, dazzling on the mound in tossing all seven innings to go the distance. He allowed just two runs (one earned), while setting his career-high in whiffs.

The teams conclude the series Sunday with the decisive rubber game at noon.
