Saints Drop Non-Conference Doubleheader at Delaware

Delaware used a four-run third inning in the opener and erupted for five runs in the fourth in the nightcap to sweep the series-opening doubleheader from Siena Baseball 11-4 and 6-2 respectively in Newark, Del. Patrick Ortland and Alex Tuccio each homered for the Saints, who were facing the Blue Hens for the first time in program history.

Game One: Delaware 11, Siena 4
Delaware (23-15) opened the scoring with their four-run third and tacked on a pair of insurance scores in the fifth inning to cruise past Siena (12-25) in the series opener. The Blue Hens pounded out 14 hits and put 20 runners on base in the win.

Julian Glover recorded four RBI for Delaware and provided the big blow in the decisive third inning, with a bases loaded, three-run double. Glover finished with a pair of hits and also stole two bases.

The Saints scored each of their four runs over the final three innings. Max Goione and Brett Connors produced RBI in the seventh and eighth innings respectively, with Ortland providing a pinch-hit two-run blast in the ninth for the junior's first career home run.

Game Two: Delaware 6, Siena 2 (7)
The first six Blue Hens reached base safely to lead off the home half of the fourth inning as Delaware sent 10 men to the dish in plating the first five runs of the game. Siena scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.

Glover added two more hits and stolen bases for the Blue Hens, while Diaz Nardo and Jeremy Ake each drove in a pair of runs. Brandon Walter went the distance on the mound, scattering four hits and two runs while walking three and striking out eight.

Tuccio led off the fifth inning with a solo home run and Jordan Folgers doubled and scored on an RBI groundout by Phil Madonna in the sixth to account for the Saints' scoring.

The teams will wrap up the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
