Freshman southpaw Tommy Miller tossed 8.1 strong innings to pitch Siena Baseball to a 5-2 win over Rider in the series opener at Sonny Pittaro Field in Lawrenceville, N.J. Miller scattered six hits and allowed just two runs (one earned), while walking only one and striking out three in leading the Saints to their third straight league win.

Siena (14-26, 8-5) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead through the first two innings, which proved to be more than enough run support for Miller. Phil Madonna opened the scoring for the Saints with a two-out, two-run single in the opening frame.

Siena took advantage of a pair of costly Rider (13-26, 5-8) errors in the second inning to push across three unearned runs. A drive to right field by Jordan Bishop was misplayed leading to two runs on the play, and Fred Smart later capped the scoring with an RBI single.

Trailing 5-1 in the ninth, the Broncs attempted to mount a rally in loading the bases with one out. But Kyano Cummings came on and induced a groundout and a strikeout with the potential tying runs aboard to lock down his fifth save.

Bishop and Dan Swain paced the Saints offensively with a pair of hits apiece, and Swain also stole a base.

The teams conclude the series with a doubleheader Saturday. The action begins with the scheduled seven-inning game at noon, with the nine-inning series finale to follow.
