Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

Siena Baseball swept MAAC doubleheader action at Iona, winning 12-6 in the series opener and 4-3 in 10 innings in the nightcap in New Rochelle, N.Y. Fred Smart homered in each game for the Saints which both eclipsed 20 overall wins and clinched a winning conference record for the fourth consecutive season.

Dan Swain also went deep on the afternoon for Siena (20-28, 13-7) which tallied three round trippers at pitcher friendly City Park which had bequeathed just five home runs total in Iona's (9-36, 3-17) nearly four full seasons playing at the facility. Jordan Bishop registered hits in both games to extend his hitting streak to 12 straight for the Saints which secured their sixth straight MAAC series victory.

Freshman Dylan D'Anna pitched three scoreless innings to record a save in the first game, and tossed two scoreless frames to earn the win in Game Two. Winners of a season-high four in a row and seven of their last nine overall, Siena will look to break out the brooms and obtain their first series sweep of the season when the teams meet in the finale Friday morning at 10:30 a.m.

Game One: Siena 12, Iona 6
Siena continued to swing red-hot bats in posting the team's third 12-run performance in the past five days after having scored in double figures just twice previously all season. The Saints ended the game by scoring six unanswered runs to break what was a 6-6 tie through five innings.

Trailing 1-0 and with the first two men retired to begin their half of the third, five straight Siena batters reached base safely as the Saints mounted a five-run, two-out rally. Bishop delivered a two-run double in the frame, and two batters later Smart launched a two-run home run to dead center to punctuate the scoring.

Siena added a run in the fourth on and RBI single by Tyler Martis, but Iona responded with a five-run fifth to pull even. However, Swain and the Saints proved to be clutch late as the junior centerfielder produced the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth and the put the game out of reach with a two-run home run to extend Siena's lead to six in the eighth.

The Saints strung together 13 more hits and 21 runners reached base safely. Martis led the hit parade with a trio of singles, while Jordan Folgers, Brian Kelly and Swain each added two hits apiece.

Game Two: Siena 4, Iona 3 (10)
Dan Lowndes tallied a season-high three hits including the game-winning RBI single in the top of the 10th inning to lead Siena to a sweep of the twinbill. Kyano Cummings tossed the first eight innings and registered a career-high 12 strikeouts for the Saints which improved to a perfect 3-0 in extra inning affairs.

Siena jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, spearheaded by Smart's second home run of the day and team-high eighth of the season with his two-run shot in the first. But the Gaels got two runs back in the third and eventually tied the scheduled seven inning affair in the sixth to send the game to extras.

However, in the 10th inning, the Saints worked some two-out magic to pick up the win. Phil Madonna drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch, setting up Lowndes to deliver the decisive hit. Iona would put the tying runner in scoring position in the bottom of the 10th, but D'Anna struck out the final batter to end it.
