UMass Lowell scored nine unanswered runs capped by a six-run eighth inning to rally late past Siena Baseball 9-4 in Lowell, Ma. Junior centerfielder Ryne Martinez drove in three of the Saints' four runs.

Siena (20-30) scored twice in the second inning and added two more runs in the third to claim an early 4-0 advantage, thanks in large part to the bat of Martinez. The first-year Saint, who had entered play with just one RBI in his first 31 at-bats of the season, paced the Siena offense with an RBI triple in the second inning and a two-run single in the third. Patrick Ortland knocked in the Saints' other run on an RBI single in the second.

UMass Lowell (19-31) halved the deficit on a two-run home run by Ian Strom in the bottom of the third, and the score would remain 4-2 in favor of Siena through six and a half innings of play. After pulling within a run in the home half of the seventh, the Riverhawks broke through with their decisive eighth inning rally.

UMass Lowell sent 11 men to the plate in the frame, albeit only three of which reached on hits. Two key errors by the Saints led to all of the runs in the inning being unearned. Ben Prada reached base twice in the frame, drawing a leadoff walk and scoring the first of the six runs, and later delivered the knockout blow with a two-run single.

Jordan Bishop and Phil Madonna contributed a pair of hits for the Saints, with Bishop extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

Siena concludes regular season action with a pivotal conference clash against rival Marist as the two teams battle to secure a MAAC Tournament berth. The series commences with doubleheader action beginning Thursday at noon at Siena Field.
