Final Stats

In the final day of the Akron Shootout, Siena women's tennis team faced Youngstown State in singles and Cleveland State in doubles.

"This weekends tournament was a great way for the girls to play teams at a high level and prepare for the MAAC season," said head coach Jeff Osborn. "Overall I was happy with the way everyone battled on each court and looks to be a very promising season ahead of us."

Siena started the day facing Youngstown State in singles. When they played the Penguins in doubles in day two of the Akron Shootout, the Saints picked up wins on courts one and two. Natalie Weaver was the only Saint to pick up a victory during singles. On court three, Weaver won 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7). Rina Sakai gave it her all on court four, but it was not enough as she fell 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (4). Ann Phillips also took it to extra sets in the sixth position as Youngstown State took the point 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3). Ali Garrity like her fellow Saints went to extra sets but was unable to come out with the victory. Mitsuki Fukamachi fell 6-0, 6-3 on court one, while Juliana Goehner was defeated 6-4, 6-3.

After facing Cleveland State in singles on Friday, the Saints battled the Vikings in the final day of the Akron Shootout in doubles. This proved to be a different match as Siena won on both courts two and three. Goehner & Anessa Leyva picked up the victory 7-5. It was the same for Phillips and Julia Dunbar on court three as they defeated Cleveland State 7-5. Garrity and Fukamachi fell 6-2 on court one.

Siena will get a short rest before they head to the URI Invitational on Oct. 8th. There they will face off against Rhode Island, Army, Bryant, Providence and Monmouth.
