LOUDONVILLE, NY - Looking to roll over momentum from his team's Fall 2018 performance, Siena men's golf head coach
Steven Jensen announced a competitive slate of tournaments in the program's Spring 2019 schedule Thursday morning. The Saints will compete in four regular season events before heading to Florida to take part in the 2019 MAAC Championship.
"We have some great tournaments at some wonderful courses slated for the spring," Jensen said. "Our upcoming events will give our team a chance to be competitive against some tough schools and prepare for the conference championship in April."
After traveling to five tournaments and hosting the Second Annual Murray Cup during the fall season, the team will continue play in the new year beginning in March 2019. Siena will be one of 14 teams to participate in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, NC from March 8-10, doing so for the fourth consecutive season.
The team will then swing into April at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational from March 31-April 1, hosted by Lafayette College at the Steel Club in Hellertown, PA. Siena will continue play in the Keystone state the following weekend, traveling to the White Manor Country Club in Malvern, PA for the fourth straight year to play in the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Villanova University.
The Green and Gold return to the Northeast on April 13 to tee off at the Yale Spring Invitational at The Course at Yale in New Haven, CT.
Siena will then look to continue its tradition of top-2 finishes at the MAAC Championship under Coach Jensen when it travels to the Sunshine State for the league tournament from April 18-20. The 2019 MAAC Championship will once again be held in Lake Buena Vista, FL at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course. The team earned as second place finish in the 2018 running, while boasting the individual medalist in then-senior
Michael Christifulli.
Fueled by a combination of young talent and veteran leadership, the Saints recorded a pair of top-5 finishes to round out their fall slate, concluding the 2018 calendar year ranked third among MAAC schools in the final GolfStat Rankings. Freshman
Jared Nelson registered a pair of top finishes, earning MAAC Golfer of the Month for September 2018 and becoming the first Siena golfer in over a decade to garner an individual ranking from GolfStat, coming in at no. 228 in the first of two fall rankings to be put out.
