March 17, 2018

Siena Water Polo fell in both games at the Hartwick Invite. Siena first fell 10-9 in overtime against Mercyhurst then St. Francis (PA) 14-11 to end the day.

"We had a great first half against Mercyhurst, but we let off the gas in the fourth quarter," said head coach Tamara Perea. "We let them get back in it with a 3-1 switch. In overtime we had our chances to take the game back, but time ran out."

Game One: Mercyhurst 10, Siena 9 (OT)
The Saints played a tight game against Mercyhurst and fell 10-9 in overtime after falling 12-9 to the team earlier this season.

Game Two: St. Francis (PA) 14 , Siena 11
Siena fell in game-two against St. Francis (PA) 14-11 at the Harwick Invite.

"In our SFU game, we had to take some time to learn a few lessons about what and who makes a team whole," stated Perea. "I'm not upset with how we had to battle, and how we came out. It will make us stronger in the long run moving forward as a team."

Bryar and Torres led the Saints with four points each. Bryar led the team with four goals, while Torres tallied two goals and two assists while also swiping the ball twice and drawing one ejection.Dretzka recorded 10 saves in the cage for Siena.

The Red Flash scored the first five goals of the game to take a 5-0 lead, but with 17 seconds on the clock in the first quarter Bryar tallied her first goal to trail 5-1 after one period played. It was a seven-goal quarter with St. Francis holding a 4-3 advantage. Siena trailed 9-4 at the half.

The Saints tallied three goals in the third quarter and two in the final minute of play. Fuertes notched a goal with five seconds left on a power play to trail 11-7. In the final frame Siena also outscored the Red Flash 4-3 with one power play goal from Bryar. The Saints fought hard but St. Francis (PA) had tacked on too far of a lead for the Saints to come back as they won 14-11.
