LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Water Polo won both of their games on Friday afternoon as they took down Connecticut College 18-1 and Utica College 16-4 in their final two home games of the season. Siena improved to 6-16.
Game One: Siena 18, Connecticut College 1
Anna Borton led all scorers with seven points coming off of four goals and three assists. The freshman also swiped the ball five times and drew two ejections. Sophia Torres had a game-high five goals while also grabbing four steals.
Kristen Burger, like her fellow freshman, was all of the pool with four goals, two assists, five steals and three ejections. Daniella Fuertes added three goals, while Diana Fernandez added one.
Connecticut College scored on their first possession of the game and Siena never looked back. After tying the game, Siena took control and never allowed the Camels to score. Nichol Feldtz was in goal and picked up eight saves
Siena led 4-0 after the first quarter. The Saints continued to hold off Connecticut College and held them to just 15 shots in the game, compared to Siena's 35. The Saints led 9-1 at the half.
Coming off a five goal period, Siena would not give in and scored six of their 18 goals in the third frame, again holding the Camels scoreless. Siena would cap off the game with three goals in the final frame to take the win 18-1.
Game Two: Siena 16, Utica 4
Fuertes led all scorers in the second game with six points coming off two goals and four assists. Kristen Burger tallied five goals along with one steal and one ejection drawn. Torres added three goals and one assist for the Saints, while Borton tallied two goals and two assists.
Feldtz started in goal for the Saints and stopped 16 shots, while Clare Bryar took her shot in goal in the final quarter. She would allow one goal, but pick up two saves for a .667 save percentage.
Siena opened up the scoring quickly and held the Pioneers scoreless for the opening frame. It was a seven-goal led heading into the second period. Utica battled in the second period with Siena outscoring the Pioneers just 4-3 in the frame. The Saints led 11-3 at the half.
The Saints held the Pioneers scoreless in the third frame and scored three goals of their own to lead 14-3 with just one period to play. With Bryar in goal the Saints battled hard for their senior captain. Siena tallied two more goals, while allowing just one to take the game 16-4.
Siena will travel to Poughkeepsie, New York for a MAAC weekend. The Saints will face St. Francis Brooklyn (1:30 PM) and Wagner (9 PM) on Saturday, April 7.
