Charlotte scored six runs over the final two innings to complete the four-game sweep of Siena Baseball with a 9-2 victory in the series finale in North Carolina. Junior rightfielder Matt Hamel paced the Saints, producing a pair of hits and the team's lone RBI.
Dominick Cammarata and Drew Ober posted identical stat lines of 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Charlotte (8-4) which harbored a 3-2 lead following the first six tightly contested innings.
The 49ers pushed across three runs on four hits to take an early 3-0 lead in the second. But Siena (0-11) took advantage of a pair of errors to scratch across a run in the third, and rallied within one on an RBI single from Hamel in the fourth which plated sophomore designated hitter Jonathan Crimmin.
However, Charlotte added a pair of key insurance runs in the seventh before blowing the game open with a four-run eighth. The 49ers scored on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly in the seventh, while solo home runs by Jackson Mims and Hunter Jones bookended the scoring in the eighth.
Siena continues its season opening 22-game road trip when the Saints return to the Sunshine State for the second time to open a three-game weekend series at Central Florida Saturday.
