TROY, NY – Jordan Roper had three hits and knocked in a pair of runs as defending MAAC Tournament Champion and preseason favorite Marist salvaged the series with an 8-5 win over Siena Baseball in the finale at Robison Field. Despite the loss, the Saints still took two of three from the rival Red Foxes to capture their second straight series to open MAAC play.
Marcos Campos contributed a pair of hits and two RBI to pace Siena (4-20, 4-2), which is still off to a solid start in league action after taking their first two conference series, first from last year's MAAC Tournament runners up in Iona last weekend, and now from the defending Tournament Champions in Marist (9-13, 3-3).
Jordan Bishop staked the Saints to a quick 1-0 lead in the opening inning on his first home run of the season. But the Red Foxes tallied two runs apiece in the second and third innings to claim a lead they would not relinquish.
Siena rallied within 4-3 thanks to a pair of runs in the third on an RBI single from Campos, who later scored the second run on a fielding error. However, Marist added an insurance run in the fifth and pulled away with three runs in the sixth highlighted by a two-run triple from Tyler Kapuscinski to even the all-time series between the two longtime I-87 rivals at 32 wins apiece.
The Saints continue a busy stretch featuring eight games in eight days with their only road game during the span Tuesday night at Fordham at 6 p.m.
