LOUDONVILLE, NY – Sam Grigo had three hits and knocked in a pair of runs to lead Brown past Siena Baseball 7-2 at Siena Field. Marcos Campos and Phil Madonna led the Saints with two hits apiece.
Brown (9-22) jumped out to an early lead in scoring five of its seven runs over the first two innings. The Bears scored twice in the first on the strength of three hits, and added three more runs which were strongly aided by a pair of errors in the second.
Siena (10-28) scored on an RBI single by reigning MAAC Player of the Week Joe Drpich in the first, and added a run on a single by Madonna to plate Craig Corliss in the third.
Matt Pierce bridged the middle innings out of the Saints' bullpen with four sensational innings of relief. He retired all 12 batters he faced, while tossing 27 of his 30 pitches for strikes in a remarkably efficient effort.
Siena returns to action Wednesday for its only road game during a 10-game stretch, when the Saints take on another Ivy League foe in Dartmouth at 3 p.m. in Hanover, New Hampshire.
