Siena Women's Tennis clinched a spot in the MAAC Tournament for the third straight season with a 5-2 win over Fairfield on Saturday morning. The Saints improved to 5-1 in league play to clinch the spot.
In doubles, Ivana Boberic and Juliana Goehner quickly won at doubles two 6-0 to give Siena a leg up. Julia Dunbar and Rina Sakai at doubles three won 6-3 to clinch the doubles point. Anessa Leyva and Ann Phillips also won 7-5 at doubles two. Siena led 1-0 heading into singles.
Fairfield tied the game at one with a Siena retirement at singles three. The Stags then took a 2-1 lead with a win at singles one. Phillips came out victorious at singles six 6-3, 7-5 to tie the match at two. Goehner at singles five put the Saints ahead 3-2 in the match and then Nanea Perkins clinched the victory at two singles in a straight set victory.
The Saints will host Marist tomorrow in the final match of the regular season. The two teams will also face each other in the Semifinals of the MAAC Tournament. With a win over Marist, the Saints will earn the #2 seed, while a loss would secure the #3 seed.
